Kindergarten Mustard Seed Project Fire Station 3 The Preschool and Kindergarten have chosen to serve Fire Station 3. We chose this station because they are the one that is assigned to our school if we have a fire. The children get to know the firefighters better by having them come to Sacred Heart and visiting them at their station. The class will bake treats for the firemen when they come to show us their fire truck and talk to us about fire safety during the month of October. The firemen come and eat lunch with us several times a year. We take Thanksgiving Dinner to them on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The children dress as Pilgrims and Indians. We tour the station and sing songs to them. Each family fixes a special dish for the firemen. We collect money and purchase a cooked ham and turkey. In the past years the firemen have shared their meal with a family who lost everything in a fire. We host a Super Bowl Party with gift certificates for pizza, nachos and dip and soft drinks. In the spring we have a covered dish picnic with the firemen. We try to honor these men that are always on call. In past years we have given smoke detectors to the fire department to be given to the poor. We gave a front door for the Habitat for Humanity house honoring the firemen that died on 911. Please feel free to offer any ideas that you would like to do for this year. We are always open for new ideas.
