Beirut, A Priesthood is a collection
of seven-minute sermons. When read in
sequence, the sermons become an autobiography of a Catholic priest.
Drawing from personal
experiences, Father Breindel uses stories from his life, his “treasures of the
heart”, to weave messages of gospel hopefulness and love in ordinary living and
in extraordinary circumstances.
His faith journey toward
priesthood began during his captivity in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1982. There his life began to change. The presence
of God’s actions in his life became clear:
a mysterious life-saving voice spoke, a blind man met God, a firing
squad aimed, and a life was changed.
His short stories are simple
to ready, yet their messages go right to the heart of his listeners and
readers. His life and by inference all
lives are shown to be living scripture.
He presents a method for anyone to take their own “treasures of the
heart” and share the gospel messages with others.
Rev. Charles L. Breindel,
Ph.D. is pastor of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Danville,
Virginia. He was ordained a priest for
the Diocese of Richmond on May 27, 2000.
Prior to entering the seminary, he was a professor and director of
international development for a large urban university. He has traveled extensively throughout the
world assisting the World Bank, the United States, and many developing
countries particularly in the Middle East and in the former Soviet Union. He has published more than sixty articles,
monographs, and book chapters. On a personal level, he has four-grown daughters
and has also raised three foster sons.
