The Daly Athletic Field Dedication
Honoring the Memory of Phil and Fran Daly

Daly Athletic Field Dedication
November 10, 2008
If you have been associated with Sacred Heart Church or School at any time over the past 45 years, the family name of Daly is part of your experience. This family’s commitment and dedication to our little piece of the world here began back in 1963, when Phil and Fran Daly came to Danville, VA, to settle and raise their family. Mr. Daly was very active within the church structure and was instrumental in purchasing the land on which SHS now sits. He, along with other church and school visionaries, convinced Father Naro to purchase this tract of land on which to build our school. In fact, it was Mr. Daly’s excavating equipment that, 43 years ago, leveled the ground for the school’s first athletic field. While Mr. Daly was busy with the business end of things, Mrs. Daly was more of a “behind the scenes” participant. Her children remember her working in the lunchroom (which is now named the Krueger Rudolph MP room in memory of Fran’s mother), assisting with school plays and musicals, and of course playground duty!
If you know anything about the Daly Family…their name is synonymous with sports in this community. It’s no wonder that they would commit to seeing that SHS has the best athletic field available. Our Blue Ribbon School Award of 2006 allowed us the opportunity to initiate a capital campaign that has resulted in many improvements to our school. Today we celebrate the addition of The Daly Athletic Field through the generosity of our school community and the Daly Family.
