THE MORE THAT YOU READ, THE MORE THINGS YOU WILL KNOW. THE MORE THAT YOU LEARN, THE MORE PLACES YOU'LL GO. (Dr. Seuss) I am so excited about our new school year! Students are exhibiting an enthusiasm for learning and accepting new challenges in the areas of language arts. Our units of study include the following objectives: *Present personal opinions, understand differing viewpoints, distinguish between fact and opinion, and analyze the effectiveness of group communication. *Apply spelling and word analysis skills by expanding the study of roots and affixes as well as the use of context to develop independence in vocabulary. *Plan, draft, revise, and edit narratives, descriptions, explanations, and a wide variety of poetry. Emphasis will be place on composition and written expression as well as sentence formation, usage, and mechanics. The English book will be used to practice, refine, and apply specific skills being taught. *Read independently and in groups for appreciation and comprehension of a variety of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Students will apply critical reading and reasoning skills in content areas. |
