This year the fifth grade is divided into two teams, Team Gold and Team Blue,  The assignments and due dates may vary depending on whether it is an Alpha or Beta day.

Team Gold

Science:  This week, the class will go back to the science lab to finish the lab on measuring mass, volume, and length.  We will continue to read chapter 10 on matter.  The class will study the periodic table and have to learn the symbols for some of the elements.

 Math:  The class is almost finished with chapter 1.  The week of Sept. 7, the class will compare decimals, order whole numbers and decimals, and use the strategy of guess and check to solve word problems. The test on this chapter will be on Tuesday, September 14.

 

Team Blue

Fifth Grade Social Studies:  This week, the class will read chapter 1, section 3.  The quiz on this section will be on Thursday.  This is the last section in chapter.  I will begin preparing the class for the test; reviewing the vocabulary and the essay questions.  The chapter test will be on Wednesday, September 15.

 

Sixth Grade Science:  The class is continuing to read from chapter 9 on matter.  We will study the periodic table and the students will have a test on the symbols for 33 of the elements.  I will give practice quizzes to help the students to learn these symbols.
