ABOUT SECOND and THIRD

GRADE

TEAM TEACHING

Team teaching allows us more concentrated teaching and learning time in each subject area.  Mrs. Rawley teaches spelling, reading, handwriting, and social studies.  Mrs. Snow teaches math, grammar, science, and creative writing.  If your child's homeroom is 3A, he/she will have Mrs. Rawley on Mondays and Wednesdays and Mrs. Snow on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  If your child's homeroom is 2A, he/she will have Mrs. Snow on Mondays and Wednesdays and Mrs. Snow on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Friday is the only day in which the children will switch classes.  Weekly testing in spelling and reading will take place on Friday when your child is with Mrs. Rawley.  When your child is with Mrs. Snow on Friday, a lesson will be taught.  Testing in math, grammar, social studies, and science will take place at the end of chapters.  All make-up tests will be given the following Monday, after school from 3:00-4:00, for anyone who is absent on a Friday.  Math and Vocabulary Competitions will take place every Friday afternoon at 1:30, unless something else is scheduled.  Come by and help cheer on your "favorite" class!

This system requires of the student a great deal of responsibility, organization, and independence.  To help with organization, Mrs. Rawley is color-coded "red" and Mrs. Snow is "blue."  All textbooks, workbooks, folders, etc. should be color-coded accordingly.  For example, all reading, handwriting, and social studies textbooks and/or workbooks should be covered "red" and all math, science, and grammar textbooks and/or workbooks should be covered "blue."

HOMEWORK

Your child will have homework in the subject areas that he/she was taught that day.  This homework will be due the following day unless otherwise noted.  A blank homework sheet designed especially for your child's homeroom will be given to your child each week to write homework assignments and to have a spelling word list for the week.

WEEKLY FOLDERS

We will send weekly folders home on Wednesdays.  In it you will find your child's work for the previous week and a chart of test grades and homework credit.  This enables you to keep track of your child's progress throughout the quarter.  Please keep in mind that this does not include daily and quiz grades.   Folders are to be signed and returned the night they come home and returned the following day.  Please keep all graded papers found in the folder.
